“It is time to take a long, hard look at our country and take action to reclaim our unique American vision. We the People must stand up and Be the People because we are ultimately responsible for our nation’s future (Swain, Carol, PhD).”
I originally chose to review “Be the People” by Dr. Carol Swain, because it was just getting released and had yet to be reviewed. Yet with a busy house of 5 children and a remarkable wife, I’m a little slow to get my review done, and in fact have now heard an interview with Dr. Swain on Today’s Issues. However, just because I’ve been beaten to the punch doesn’t mean I don’t have a few thoughts of my own to share.
First to get it out of my system I’m going to share the one bad thing I have to say about this book. Dr. Swain is a remarkable authoress, but I think she needs to learn a little bit more about control on chapter lengths. Although I can see how the subject matter worked together, it just seemed to me that a few more chapters would not have deterred from the book. Now that is done, let me move on.
I believe that every person, regardless of political affiliation, should be willing to take a look at this book. Yes, Dr. Swain is definitely a very conservative black woman, but the amount of research she put into this book is remarkable. Dr. Swain shows that she knows how to research, which I’m sure has come from her years of educational pursuits. Dr. Swain has committed 85 pages in Appendixes, bibliographies for each chapter, and an Index. If that is not satisfying enough for the cynic, then you can always check out her website!
Dr. Swain takes the time to address a wide plethora of issues that certainly need addressed in our society today. With the unfortunate treatment of conservative educators in today’s Colleges, Dr. Swains willingness to address these issues, regardless of the cost, makes this book one of the most valuable books for those today who desire to reclaim America for her former glory. I think that this book is a must read for all those who believe that we can “Reclaim America’s Faith & Promise.”
In my humble opinion I’m giving this book 5 stars out of 5.
